A billiards marathon was held at West Acre Billiards Club recently. The event commenced at 6.00am and finished at midnight. Twenty players took part during the course of the day, these varying in age from 8 to 65! A grand total of £325 was raised for the Billiard Club and West Acre Village Hall.
The Norfolk Boys' Billiards & Snooker League has attracted a record entry of seven teams for the 2000-01 season. Norwich "A" were First Division Champions last season, with their "B" team runners-up. Gt. Massingham finished top of the Second Division.
Twelve teams from seven different counties have entered the Eastern Counties Billiards League this season. After the first two games, newly promoted Newmarket narrowly head the First Division from Mid- Norfolk, whose Phillip Welham has set an early target for the highest break with a run of 117. Jimmy Chambers, representing the Newmarket team, also looks to be in fine form this season and has already recorded several high breaks.
This handicap league ran for ten weeks over the summer months and was won by Swaffham Cons team who finished ahead of West Acre C. Phillip Welham made the best break with 176. Out of the thirty six team members it was encouraging to note that one-third were under 18 years of age.
