Sunday 19th November saw this season’s first Cornwall Billiards Masters one day tournament, held at Grants Snooker Club St Austell. Once again this tournament will be used as a “county trial” to help selectors pick the final team members participating in the National Inter County Team Billiards Championship at Newmarket in January 2001. Although the nine players were a smaller than expected turn out, the standard of billiards was very good, with Charlie Gay making breaks of 148 and 117 and Dave White a best of 99. In the final 45-minute match, Noel Meagor defeated Charlie Gay 190 (48, 45) – 148 (51). The semi-finalists were Dave White and Dave Clue.
Derek White (Menheniot) was the first player to record a century
break in this year’s Cornwall Individual Billiards Championship. He
made 112 in defeating Taylor Veal (Penponds) 500-274 in their first
round match. Other players making up the last eight were Noel Meagor
(Playing Place), Alan Snell (Dobwalls), Keith Olver (Hessenford), Dave
White (Bude SC), Mike Burnard (Camelford WMI), Dave Clue
(Menheniot) and Charlie Gay (St. Day).
In the quarter-finals Alan Snell beat Noel Meagor 650-437 making a
break of 87 and three others over 60. Charlie registered the highest
break of the competition so far with 128 but his opponent, Dave White
had runs of 40, 40, 59, 66, 69, 78 and 79 to win 650-440. Dave Clue
beat Keith Olver 650-457 with Dave making breaks of 80 and 72 and
three others of 40 or more. Derek White completed the semi-final line-
up when he defeated Mike Burnard 650-308.
