Derbyshire Billiards Championship

The Derbyshire Billiards Championship took place recently at
the North-East Derbyshire Snooker Centre in Clay Cross where
Darley Dale’s Jim McCann lifted the title for the third year in
succession and eleven times in total. On the way to the final he
defeated Joe Neville of Tansley and in doing so recorded the top
break of the day with a run of 134. McCann then outscored
England International, David Rees of Derby, to ease his way
into the final. His opponent in the final round, Colin Routledge
of Derby, could not keep up with McCann who secured victory
with a comfortable 386-136 win. Breaks in the final were
McCann 42, 56, 58 and 71, Routledge 48. McCann received the
Herbert Beetham Trophy and the high break prize for his 134.
In the Plate competition saw another player from the Whitworth
Institute in Darley Dale reach the final. Les Cook, had done well
to reach this stage, but eventually went down to David Rees by
227-136.
