Bath Billiards League

It was the Weston Club’s turn to host the pre-season challenge match
between Weston and Wincanton. The six-man teams contested games
of one-hour duration on the Club’s two tables. An additional test for
the players being that one of these tables was seven-eighths scale. On
this occasion it was the home team who emerged victorious by a 4-2
margin, winning all three matches on the undersize table. The highest
break came from Wincanton’s Jack Masters who produced a 67 in a
narrow 219-200 win over D. Stephenson. The players enjoyed an
after-match buffet at the Old Crown Inn.

Taunton & District League

The 2001-02 season concluded with Merryfield “B” (B. Harvey, J.
Cole, R. Hill, R. Lee) winning the Billiards League by a comfortable
margin over Railway “A” (R. Watts, T. Thomas, C. Hampton). Brian
Harvey made five century breaks (147, 140, 124, 106, 104) during the
course of the season, along with 37 breaks over 50. Dick Watts recorded
a top break of 78 with 12 breaks over 50 and the rapidly improving
Justin Cole achieved a best break of 74. The John Hocking Trophy was
also won by Merryfield “B” who beat Merryfield “A” in the final. The
Individual Billiards Open went to Brian Harvey 500-191 who defeated
clubmate K. Gray in the final. Dick Watts prevented a Merryfield clean
sweep with victory over Brian Harvey in the Handicap Final.
