Junior Ranking Series
Maltings Q Club, Kings Lynn
Sunday, November 3rd, 2003
Twenty-six players entered the season’s second Junior Ranking
tournament at the Maltings Q Club in Kings Lynn, who kindly sponsored
the competition. Kettering’s Matthew Sutton won the event in fine
style recording breaks of 107, 69 and 54 in the first round, 70 and 54 in
the quarter-finals, and 130 in the semi’s. However, in the final the
rapidly improving Jamie Edwards (Norwich) pressed Sutton all the
way allowing the Kettering player only a slender four point victory.
Billy Bousfield progressed the furthest from the small travelling
contingent from Teesside, losing in the semi-finals to Sutton, while
Daniel Dobbs, who lost in the other semi-final to Edwards, was
Lincolnshire’s most successful representative.
In the Plate final, Nathan Mann (Norwich) defeated James Roberts
(Norwich) in a very close contest, the closing score being 167-161.

In the absence of Robin Wilson the Junior tournaments are beginning to
look much more competitive, and with Matthew Sutton also missing
on this occasion, the Lincoln event was wide-open. Even so, the closing
stages of this 20-strong field were dominated by Teessiders, with Jamie
Barker being the only player from outside that region the reach the
quarter-finals.
Billy Bousfield proved to be the best on the day, including notable
victories over Michael Donnelly in the semi-finals and John Hall in the
final. Craig Murphy made the highest break of the competition, with
101 in his opening match while Donnelly and Hall both passed the 500
aggregate during the course of the day, with 513 and 506 respectively.
Craig Brown won the Plate event, beating Richard Hall 323-308 in the
final. This result including a break of 50 by Brown.
