TEESSIDE ROUND UP
Middlesbrough Friendly League
Fifteen year-old Danny Beagrie set a new League record as the youngest
player to record a century break in Division C of the League. Playing
for the Dormans Club he made a run of 102 in his 120-up game during
their fixture at North Ormesby Workmen’s Club.
Beagrie’s team-mate John Hall, had a notable success in the second
round of the Individual knock-out when he defeated last year’s winner,
Darren Kell. Receiving 80 points, Hall managed to win 200-130 on the
ex-CIU Champion’s home table at the Ironopolis Club.
Boys’ Billiards League
The English Junior Team Championship saw a good entry of 15 teams
from the Boy’s League who will compete to find the Northern
representative at the finals in Lincoln on 23rd February. Best
performances from the early rounds was a high break of 91 from Craig
Brown (Riley’s Stockton ‘A’) in a 496-190 win over his opponent from
Old Thornaby ‘A’. However, this was not the highest one-hour aggregate
in these opening matches. That honour went to Dominic Mulhall
(Ormesby ‘A’) who produced a string of 50+ breaks in a 502-58 win.
The teams are now at the quarter-final stage of the elimination
competition.
Redcar & District League
Twelve year-old Ross MacDonald, the youngest billiard player in the
League, secured the only points for his team, North Ormesby Institute,
in their match at South Bank Albion in January. He is reported to be
improving week by week.
