COUNTY TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The Atack Centre, Nuneaton. Sunday 19th January 2003

There were 16 teams represented in the 2003 County Championship
which was again played as a one-day event at The Atack Snooker
Centre in Nuneaton. The three-man teams each played games of 1 hour
with aggregate score deciding the winner.

The squad of Stephen Crosland, Richard Lodge, Bob Patterson and
Tony Clegg, claimed the title for Yorkshire having defeated Derbyshire
767-709 in the final, in one of the closest matches of the day. Collin
Routledge had a memorable 232-197 victory over Yorkshire’s star player,
Stephen Crosland, but Bob Patterson and Richard Lodge retrieved the
situation with good wins over Jim McCann and David Rees respectively.

Patterson was particularly impressive with breaks of 107 and 85 in his
game.

This was Yorkshire’s first win since 1990, despite reaching the final on
several occasions in the intervening years. The Cleveland team, who
have dominated this competition since it was reinstated under the
EABA umbrella, had fallen to Derbyshire in the semi-finals. Yorkshire,
meanwhile, had defeated Cambridge ‘A’ at the same stage.
