Top Cue Tournament

The Top Cue Tournament took place at Wincanton
on Sunday 13th April 1997 and was won by Brian
Harvey (Bridgwater) who recorded breaks of 77 and
67 amongst performances which were better described
as “solid” rather than “scintillating”. He was presented
with the “Top Cue” Rose Bowl Trophy which had been
jointly donated by Norman Dagley and the event
organiser, Colin White. The triangular tournament of
three 50 minute heats, also included Bill Andress
(Exeter), and David Burgess (Southampton) and
attracted an audience of over sixty people. The losing
contestants where rewarded by being matched against
two members of the audience, (selected by a draw)
while tea was served.

The event was completed by an exhibition game of 1½
hours between Peter Gilchrist and Brian Harvey. The
highlight was a smooth and controlled break of 205 by
Gilchrist, completed in just under 15 minutes. He finished
with half an hour of trick-shots, party pieces and
questions from the spectators.

Black Puddings Defeated

The Mill Street Club in Wincanton was the venue for a
friendly match between Wessex (Scrumpys) and the
Dove Valley League (Black Puddings) on Saturday 12th
April 1997. The games of 50 minutes duration resulted
in a convincing win by five games to one for Wessex.

This avenged the narrow victory which had been
secured by the “Black Puddings” when these teams
last met.
