John Roberts and the Championship

I notice, says “Snooker,” in the Sydney Referee, that our
late visitor, John Roberts, thinks of having another cut for the
championship, which he firs, had the honour of winning as
far back as April 14, 1870, when he defeated William Cook by
478 points in 1,000 up in a task occupying three hours four
minutes, the best break in which was 55 The other evening in
Perth, after stringing together a fine break of 334 against
Williams, the veteran said he had struck a revival of his
form during the last few months in Australia.

“Ever since August I have played well,” said Roberts, “and on the
form shown in my last couple of games with Lindrum, and the
present one against Williams, I don’t think there is anyone in
the world to-day who could beat me, and when I return to England
I will make another bid to regain the world’s championship if I
feel as well as I do at the present time.”
