The flying handicap of the Stock Exchange Clerks’ Billiard
Association concluded on Friday night. Mr. P.
Harwitz, at scratch, defeated Mr. Townshend (received
22). The final in the handicap proper was being played on
the 14th inst., as we went to press, between P. Wood
(owed 200) and D. M. Lewis (rec. 20).
At the Shepherd’s Bush Club, the Athenaeum, Goldhawk
Road, Shepherd’s Bush, on January 24, the final heat (200
up) in the first handicap of the season was played between
E. H. Morley (owing 80) and A. Winn (owing 50). Morley,
who won by 46, will be the final holder of the club
championship cup if successful in this year’s contest. The
best breaks made during the game were 32, 28, 24, and 21
by Morley, whilst Winn was responsible for 19, 14, 12, and
After the different sessions of the Harverson-Lovejoy
exhibition match at Leicester Square, amateurs amongst
the spectators were given the chance of making a break
under standard conditions from the spotted balls. Only a
few contrived to make the opening long loser and the
highest break of the week was 25 by R. H. Barnes, Wilton
Hotel, Victoria, S.W., who was presented with a cue and
case by Messrs. Thurston.
