The Point of Contact

To the Editor.

Referring to your editorial footnote to my letter which
appeared in your last issue, I am aware that Stevenson in
his “Top of the Table Game” says that “the contact occurs
half-way nearer the middle of the object ball than the
cue points to”—nevertheless the statement is absolutely
inaccurate, as any schoolboy with a pair of compasses, a
ruler, and a pencil, can easily show.

I enclose a diagram to prove the truth of what I say,
although it is not necessary that the diagram should be
published.

A. LONG BROWN.

Muswell Hill, N.

April 8th, 1912.

[We print this letter with pleasure, but our correspondent
is dealing with a fourth circumference, whereas aim is
taken, between edge and centre, at a half diameter, and the
point of contact, under these circumstances, is half-way
between the point of aim and the centre of the ball ]
